eleri-kay:

please remember that just because you appear calm doesn’t mean you don’t have anxiety

anxiety can manifest itself through perfectionism, obsessive compulsive behaviors, hyper-vigilance, irritability, increased maladaptive coping mechanisms, extreme caution, racing thoughts, insomnia, nightmares, and more. it doesn’t always appear as jittery hyperactivity

anxiety doesn’t always show, and you don’t have to force it to show in order to get help

Instead of advocating for violent video games to be banned, maybe being a responsible parent. Pay attention to the game’s rating, it’s there for a reason. If your kid is 8 years old and is traumatized by an R rated game that is your fault. Check game ratings before buying. Make sure your older child isn’t showing their younger sibling inappropriate game content. Watch the game trailer. Look at reviews. Ask the store employee if they know what it’s about before you buy it. Monitor your children’s viewing history on YouTube; watch the content they’re watching to make sure it’s appropriate, or keep them on YouTube Kids and not on the full app. It is not the developers, content creators, store employees, or anyone else’s responsibility to protect your children from media you think is inappropriate.

It’s. Yours.
