Let’s put aside how a shitton of cartoons have protagoonists who aren’t human in the first place you are talking about comparing the stuff from today to the 1990s when cartoons were in a sweet spot of maturing and pushing boundaries whilst also honouring the older tropes and styles of cartoons.Hence you have brilliant pieces of art like Batman the Animated Series that changed the game, Gargoyles which followed and arguably perfected what BTAS did* but also stuff that remixed but also honoured more classic cartoon tropes like Dexter’s lab or the female led show   Powerpuff Girls! And stuff somewhat in between like Samurai Jack which again had a poc protagonist voiced by a poc actor with a poc actor also playing the primary villain meaning the leads of the show were poc!

You are also talking about the late 1990s-2000s where the anime boom happened importing shittons of stuff about NON-WHITE characters and several which were not male either (e.g. I dunno just off the top of my head Card Captor and SAILOR FUCKING MOON!)

And you are also talking about the that decade’s poster child for high quality Westerns animation Avatar the Last Airbender which again had lots of non-male/non-white characters in it including it’s protagonist.

I ain’t saying there is nothing good around now but you wanna talk the average quality, no asshole it’s clearly lower.

My God let’s just take THREE examples.

Teen Titans Go!, the new Powerpuff Girls TV show and Ultimate Spider-Man/Marvel’s 2017 Spider-Man cartoon.

There is no one, and I mean no one, who considers these shows who have the exact same characters who look the exact same way, anywhere close to being on the same level as the original shows they were based upon.

No one. 

So maybe next time instead of throwing out the laziest most pathetically myopic argument you possibly could engage in the teeniest tiniest bit of critical thinking jackass.

*And had a list on non-human protagonists one of which was female with the true blue co-lead being a half African America/half Native American woman. BTW the whole story was built around unfair prejudice because of how people look so you know maybe do some fucking research!
