Wrinkle in time was a huge fucking deal to young south Asian and black girls, though. Just because something doesn’t do well financially doesn’t mean it is automatically pandering or not meaningful to the intended audience.

I’m South Asian and I read the original book when I was 10 and loved it. This movie isn’t bad because it racebent the characters (although that IS a problem because it implies that you can’t make a new fantasy novel with Black characters, you have to piggyback on a current White property). It’s bad because it was a horrible book adaptation and took most of the love and charm from the book, turning it into a dull mess. 

POC DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS.
