I think the problem is that people assume redemption arcs in multi-part stories should work in a linear way. Once a character shows signs of redemption, they cannot go back to their old ways. If they do, it means they are inherently evil and their redemption is not happening. That is why antis think that the first two acts of TLJ were just illustrating Kylo’s manipulation of Rey. Thy think that if a redemption was happening, it would have been linear and he wouldn’t have become Supreme Leader.

It’s amazing that it’s never occurred to them that the writers may have put Kylo in the position of Supreme Leader because that’s exactly where he needs to be to complete his redemption.

He would actually have the power to tear the FO down and start something new. He didn’t have that kind of power when he was under Snoke’s thumb.

“He didn’t have that kind of power when he was under Snoke’s thumb.”

^^ This is a beautiful thing. The fact that he surpassed Vader in terms of galactic power status is a beautiful thing. It’s truly in his hands now to finish what was started.

Why is it so hard for them to understand? It’s really mindboggling that they don’t understand this.

To make another parallel, it’s like saying a drug addict who shows sign of improvements and then relapses after a particularly hard time in their life should just be ‘thrown away’.

“Welp, Steve fell off the wagon again because Mom died, I guess he’s dead to us now too.  No help to be found here, lol.”

Redemption is always a series of steps forward with some stumbling back, because you have to face the things you’ve done, you will meet pushback from those you’ve wronged but you go forward anyway.
