Me, in my profile on a dating hellsite: “Star Wars is pretty much my life”
A Star Wars “fanboy” sliding into my messages: “So you like Star Wars, huh? What’s your favorite movie?”
Me: “Empire Strikes Back and The Last Jedi.”
Fanboy: “The new series sucks, Kyle Ron is a terrible character.”
Me (knowing he just killed any chance of this going anywhere): “Hmm. Well, what is your favorite movie?”
Fanboy: “A New Hope.”
Me: “I see. How did you like Solo?”
Fanboy: “It was terrible. The new movies suck.”
Me: “I actually liked Solo. Especially the twist at the end with Darth Maul.”
Fanboy: “Maul was the only good part of the prequel trilogy. I hated those films. Bad writing, bad effects. They turned Vader into a whiny bitch.”
Me (after a moment of deep breathing after he insulted both of my favorites): “Wait a minute. Let me get this straight. You said you’re a huge Star Wars fan, right?”
Fanboy: “Yeah, I love Star Wars.”
Me: “No you don’t. You love the original trilogy. Not the franchise. You hated the prequel trilogy. You hated the sequel trilogy. You hated Solo. You’re NOT a Star Wars fan, so why do you keep pretending? Is it to pick up chicks that are into Star Wars?”
Fanboy: *has a melt down and tries to take back his dislike of the prequels and sequels*
Me: “You literally just bashed them. When I called you out on your fake fan status, now you’re changing your tune? Do you think you’re cool or that I’m more likely to go on a date with you if you say you hate them? Because I can assure you, the moment you called Kylo Ren ‘Kyle Ron’ was the moment I decided you’re not worth my time.”
Fanboy: “You just want to fuck Kylo Ren.”
Me: “Yup, just like you want to fuck Slave Leia. But unlike you, I actually like the franchise and I’m not fake about it. Maybe you should stop calling yourself a Star Wars fan since you only liked three of the ten movies that have been released.”
“Maybe you should stop calling yourself a Star Wars fan since you only liked three of the ten movies that have been released.”
^^^^^^ holy shit
Drag ‘em…
I wanted to chip in on fan experience being in many ways psychologically similar to quasi religious one and as such many fans may see adding new installments as something of a dogma alteration
but instead I imagined a Vatican conclave room filled with nerds dressed up as SW characters beating each other with toy lightsabers quarelling if Maul, anh Vader or tfa Kylo should be the pope and now I’ll never be free
I don’t want to disrespect religious feelings I just have a very indecent brain, sorry
You hit the nail on the head with that. Just because it’s not “religion” doesn’t mean the same processes aren’t at work.
These fans are the same type who would scream “God’s going to strike you down for that!” But have ever only read a couple chapters of the Bible and never pray or actually try to talk to the being they’re claiming to speaking for. They just want something to confirm their biases (whether it’s fandom or religion) and fly into a rage when someone, even a creator, comes along and says otherwise.
I think the best summary is that ewok priest preparing a feast of Luke and Han in C-3P0’s honour and giving zero f*cks when Threepio tells him to stop
🙃 I’ve been a fan and watching SW for as long as I remember. Idgaf if it’s like a religious experience to some people. If you only like the original trilogy and consistently have bad things to say about the rest of the franchise, you’re not a fan. Simple as that. And I will continue to mock, drag, ridicule, and humiliate every single “fanboy” that comes at me with their claims of being a fan while liking less then 1/3 of thre actual franchise.
Tbh some of the “fanboys” are the Star Wars fan equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church 🙃 And I hate them as much as I hate the WBC
“They only like the original trilogy”
No that’s wrong. They only like A New Hope and their opinions about the other movies change depending on how recent it is.
ESB was hated when it came out because it “ruined the first one”, then ROTJ came out and it became the new punching bag and suddenly ESB was awesome. Then the Prequels happened and THEY became the punching bag and suddenly ROTJ was awesome. Now we have the Sequels, and they said that TFA sucked because it was “too much like ANH.” Now they love TFA and hate TLJ for being “too different” and the Prequels suddenly aren’t bad anymore.
If we get a new trilogy or spin off of Star Wars, then THAT one will become hated and suddenly everyone is going to fall over the Sequel.
It would be inaccurate to call them fanboys. We should call these people nostalgia blind.
