Tumblr’s “walking on eggshells” and “one strike, you’re out” mentality is really really immature.
Reblog if ya agree.
Another unpopular opinion:
The “You can apologize, beg for forgiveness, and change your ways all you want but it won’t change a thing cause you’re still horrible vile trash that deserves to die a fiery death” mentality is really harmful, scary, disgusting, and will probably get someone killed, be it by someone else’s hand or their own
yet another unpopular opinion: the ‘unproblematic fav’ mentality is really bad because you’re putting an individual up on a pedestal and treating them like a deity of sorts and forgetting that they too are human beings and make mistakes.
Another unpopular opinion: Not every mistake is the Worst Thing Ever. Sometimes people make small mistakes, and sometimes ignorance is a small mistake, and they do not need to grovel and beg and apologize perfectly because in the scheme of things it was a small mistake that didn’t even seriously hurt anyone, outside of tumblr’s performative moral outrage being offended.
These are all extremely valid unpopular opinions.
here’s Another unpopular opinion: when someone becomes successful the need to rifle through someone’s pasts posts/tweets/Facebook post to find the One Thing™️ they did wrong and shame them then lead a witch hunt for their coerce apology. Followed by working to destroy their future needs to stop. People say dumb and ignorant things, but can learn from them. There are certainly people who don’t, and they should be held accountable. But more often than not the ones that are dragged are people who said/wrote something bad once or twice back at a time when they were a different person. Tumblr and now twitter need to learn that people do change, and usually the bigotry is environmental.
Digging through someone’s past to find that One Thing™️ to drag them about and cripple their future shows more about the digger than the person they’re attacking. Jealousy is the most vile thing in this world.
Definitely talk politics at Thanksgiving. Put your racist moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, and cousins to the moral grinder.
Congratulations, you’re the person nobody wants to see.
How To Talk Politics at Thanksgiving:
1) Don’t.
2) If you must, Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for family and good things that happened this year, it is not a time to be angry at your family or to own them with facts and the Moral Meat Grinder.
3) If you must debate Politics be respectful, be polite, if ANYONE’s voices start to get the slightest bit raised, change the subject immediately, even if you were only halfway done owning your racist uncle.
4) The Cranberry sauce is more attractive to flies than the Vinegar dressing. Throwing facts at your family in a smug way will not change anyone’s minds, throwing catchphrases and buzzwords will just annoy them. If you want to use this opportunity to try and correct your uncle’s beliefs, do it in a kind respectful way and in the right place.
5) DO NOT DEBATE AT THE TABLE. Seriously, the table is the most important and stressful part of the event for those who hosted it, your mother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, father, grandpa, EVERYONE worked hard to make the feast. If you’re talking about politics at the table you are throwing that cranberry pie in the face of those who worked so hard to make it. Shut up, enjoy the food, and save the debating for before or after.
6) Always have a better relationship with the people after Thanksgiving than you did before. When you leave your family’s house after Thanksgiving, you should have gotten closer to the people in your family, not further apart. If talking politics caused you to drift away from them, then that was a failure and you lost the Spirit of Thanksgiving. If expressing and debating politics made them respect you and grow closer, even if they disagree, then you did well. It is possible to disagree and still be close, it’s possible that a good debate can create bonds of kinship, but it’s not easy and if you can’t do it, see point number 1.
This can also apply to other holidays and family gatherings in general really.
I mean where else can you find so much childish hatred of men and double standards on gender equality?
It’s probably because women don’t have power over men to make this actually threatening to the equality. Also statistically men not only talk longer than women but interrupt women more often than when other men are talking. Also these kind of memes on tumblr dot com are targeted at men who do in fact talk way more. Making this quite harmless meme true. But go off with “double standarts” I guess lmao.
You really must think little of women if you think they do not play a part in society. You must really think little of women if you think their say isnt part of what influences how we as people treat each other. I mean this is without the clear cases of women influencing men’s rights such as protesting abuse shelters for men or successfully keeping rape definitions gendered. Women make up half of society and society is part of what determines how people are treated. And you will notice that this isnt even about MRAs, but men’s rights itself.
You talk about supporting equality, but you only give people reason to doubt you. You act like men arent frequently silenced when attenpting to speak on issues they face. That men arent told or even pressured into believing that they do not and cannot face inequalities, or that they are whining when they speak up. Men already struggle with having inequalities they face recognized as such. Literal government level discrimination from gendered crime definitions to conditional rights and privileges. This is all without including entire activist groups that make it a goal to mock men and issues they face.
So yes, i do have a problem with post that trivializes inequalities men face just because hating men and ignoring their problems is the popular thing to do now.
Why do they have to do Carl Winslow dirty like this?
life on the internet gets a lot better when you realize you dont owe random weirdos your time or energy
mean or baiting anon message? delete it. someone leaves an annoying comment on one of your posts? block em. you see a post that says something you dont like? ignore it.
you have absolutely no obligation to anyone on this website. dont forget that
When people say their ship is superior because it’s gay/lesbian
When people say their ship is superior because it’s straight
When people think their incest ship is canon
When people post hate in the tag
When people overreact and call other people racist/homophobic because they don’t like their biracial ship
When gay people think that all straight people who don’t ship their gay ship are homophobic even though there does exist straight LGBT supporters who DO ship their gay ship
When straight people think that all gay people hate straight ships even though there are some out there who don’t:
When you’re a multshipper and you love everyone’s ships:
not to be all “tw*light did nothing wrong” but misogyny honest to god killed the hunger games
it was no masterpiece sure but it also sure as hell wasnt the love triangle bullshit everyone made it out to be. seriously everyone blames this whole “YA fiction with the special One and teens overthrowing the oppressive government tropes” trend on the hunger games but the truth is that none of those books are anything like thg
god!!! im mad!! name one cliche YA novel where the government actually is BAD like not just “oh love is illegal” or “they barcode you!!uwu” instead of like. actual slavery and rampant poverty while the rich waste their money on dumb bullshit!! and name one main character who ACTUALLY suffers under the government’s regime!! who actually starves and works and suffers and has genuine REASON to rebel!! thg is the only YA book that had anything to say about wealth disparity and the dehumanization of the poor,, every other YA book uses it as a plot device to put some dumbass romance together or show how “badass” the MC is!! thg is genuinely emotional and the focus of the book isnt katniss’s archery and how cool she is and its NOT gale or fucking peeta bread. and then the marketing for the stupid fucking movies took the WHOLE POINT OF THE BOOK (which is to satirize and critique how women in entertainment have any serious things about them ignored in favor of whatever dress theyre wearing or who they’re dating) and turns that into……….. a fucking love triangle. and then the world forgets it because its just another dumb teen girl series. okay.
Me @ myself rn
oh also last thing. the fact that at the end katniss chose to kill Coin (the rebel leader/soon to be newest dictator) instead of just having a plain and simple boring happy ending shows just how different thg is from the YA fiction its compared to. no other book in this genre would have the guts (or even the idea) to put out such a blatant, obvious “the fight against oppression never ends, stay diligent” message and thg is iconic for it and it shows how much thought was actually put into its message. im sorry to susan collins for my 12 yo self for not understanding at the time and thinking it was just bad writing
thanks to everyone adding on about the representation! about finnick’s story and being trafficked! and about peeta and his disability!! and katniss and her indigenous coding and PTSD!! And about how it shows how war n dictatorships always prey on marginalized groups!! and a billion other things!!! that the movies just fucked off n forgot about!!!
I liked the movies, but… yeah, the marketing played right into people’s bullshit tendency to go “the protagonist is a straight young woman? Who has two crushes? I give no fucks what that choice symbolizes and how it’s similar to every other symbolic choice in this trilogy. I’m already bored”
