I swear people will read a slow burn for one of their ships where they don’t even meet until 500k or more words into the fan fiction but can’t sit and wait helifg a slow burn character development in a show without calling it bad writing, queerbaiting, etc.

Now a new study looking at 400,000 youths from 88 countries around the world suggests such bans are making a difference in reducing youth violence. It marks the first systematic assessment of whether an association exists between a ban on corporal punishment and the frequency in which adolescents get into fights.

[F]or both boys and girls, [prof. Elizabeth Gershoff] said, “We found [spanking] linked to more aggression, more delinquent behavior, more mental health problems, worse relationships with parents, and putting the children at higher risk for physical abuse from their parents.”

“People often ask: Why didn’t you look for positive aspects?” she continued. “My answer is: We did, and there were none. We see consistently that the more children are spanked, the more behavioral problems they have in the years ahead.”

For all the people screaming “but discipline!”:

This is NOT about using spanking as a last resort punishment after everything else has failed.

This is about using spanking for EVERYTHING regardless of whether it makes sense. As in, spanking a 12 year old for failing a math test. It doesn’t teach the lesson, the punishment doesn’t line up with the mistake, and you’re just going to make the kid angry.

Use your brain when teaching your kids don’t just hit them for everything.

Ben is a chip off the old block!

LOOK AT THAT PLATONIC SHIRTLESS TENSION

SO PLATONIC

#Platonicthings

And Matt Martin’s really out there liking people replies talking about the parallels with Rey/Ben

It looks like he’s liking pretty much all of the responses but this is my favorite one:

I’m fucking toasted, y’all. I have ascended to another plane of existence.

Matt is my fav

The “Man is shirtless in front of woman” is such a classic for romantic/sexual tension build-up. How can some people still don’t see that? I mean let’s play a game shall we. I show you something and you find the similarity  …

1.

2.

3.

4.

And the last one

What is the similarity? The first four couples are later in love with each other and now with the Reylo shrtless scene you can put one and one together. But no, of course it is JUST platonic.

📢 📣IT’S A TROPE! 📣📢

It’s definitely a trope:

It’s such a commonly used trope, it’s actually a cliché.

I remember when I saw the shirtless scene, apart from having a NOSEBLEED, I couldn’t FUCKING believe they’d gone there!!!!!!!

It’s SO OBVIOUS she’s flushed and he’s showing off as hell! Like please look at me, I’m sexy, I’m sweaty, I’m ready for you.

The Lust Jedi would have been an appropriate title for that movie!!!!

When I saw the shirtless scene in the theatre I was like “OKAY now I get it no wonder everyone thinks they’re in love”

How are people saying it’s platonic????

Do you ever have that moment when a kid is looking at you and you realize that they’re looking at you as a grown up? Then its like no child im a children too, dont. Im sorry my outward appearance confuses you.

The moment in my life when I realized that 95% of adults are just freaked out teenagers in older bodies trying desperately to hide the fact that they don’t really know or understand what’s going on was probably the most important realization I’ve ever had

All cops are bastards and that’s just the way things are.

The fact that they’re gay, trans, people of colour, women or have a working class background doesn’t excuse them for deliberately choosing to be actual perpetrators of violence against oppressed groups.

a police man died in my local area two years ago. my friends dad. she now has no father. she was 14. he died because he was saving people from a collapsing bridge after masses of floods.

you are an awful fucking person and i sincerely hope you are in a situation that requires the police to save you one day, because then you will realise their worth. what will you do, yell ‘all cops are bastards!’ and be stuck in whatever situation you are in?

i’m sorry there is racism. i’m sorry police are racist sometimes. i feel sorry for you, leading such a sad and pathetic life that you take the minority’s actions as the majority’s action because you desperately need someone to attack all the time.

police are important, kind members of society who give up their time to protect you everyday.

you are the bastards. fuck off.

hey op. you must be a real idiot if you really think that all cops are evil and corrupt. you can’t possibly think that each and every cop on earth have discriminated against minorities. cops aren’t a goddamn monolith, pal. they’re not clones of each other. they don’t all think the same.

choosing to work in the police force doesn’t automatically mean you have bad intentions. most cops want to be cops so that they can help others, so that they can stop crime, so that they can help keep society from tearing apart at the seams.

if all cops suddenly died or disappeared, what do you think would happen?

i know what would happen. and i think deep down you know, too.

it would be an absolute fucking chaos.

society would collapse. people would riot in the streets. no laws. nobody to stop them.

murder. rape. fights. speeding. robberies. of course these things happen every day, but it would increase greatly in a scenario like this.

and would racism stop? no.

would homophobia stop? no.

would transphobia stop? no.

would sexism stop? no.

it would not stop. everything would just get more frequent and more chaotic! if every single cop died or disappeared without warning, society would collapse in just a few days or less. it would probably end with the government getting involved and having to take down most of the rioters.

the point is that we need cops. you can deny it all you’d like, but they are a very, very important part of society. they are the ones who risk their lives in the name of the law every day. who are just trying to do their jobs.

and yes, there are cops who use their position to discriminate against and hurt and arrest and possibly kill innocent people. every group has its bad individuals. but that doesn’t mean that all cops do that! most cops are good, respectable people who are worthy of respect!

and cops are not only cops. they are fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, someone’s cousin, someone’s grandparent, someone’s aunt or uncle, someone’s grandkids, someone’s lover, someone’s best friend. they may be someone’s hero or role model.

many cops save lives every day, and some even lose their own lives in the process.

like the person above’s friend’s father. he sounds like a true hero, by the way. he didn’t deserve to die. i have all respect for him. may he rest in peace.

anyways, this got much longer than expected, but i’m just real sick and tired of seeing people like you paint a whole group as evil based around their job. not all fucking cops abuse their power. please get that into your head soon. please think.

the amount of people who think the solution to police brutality is actual fucking anarchy is astounding to me. please, OP, provide us with one single source of an anarchist society leading to less violent crime. i’ll wait.
