I don’t know where this idea came from but Kylo not being good at anything and being a no stake bad villain seems more fanon than canon. No one outside antis and weirdly some rey.los think Kylo is not a danger to everyone’s health and not only because he has become SL either.
Like Mr Johnson is beyond smug at showing off “Kylo the dangerous commander and pilot” and all you do is reduce him to his mental breakdown at the end of Crait.. Why? It doesn’t do anything for his redemption credibility i will tell you that much .
Maybe not so “not good at anything”. But in the context of established canon his stakes are not high enough. He’s above average force user and fighter, but stands no chance against Rey, so in this aspect he’s no threat. He is a good pilot, but Rey and Poe are too.
There is IMHO little in Kylo to bring success to his role as villainous Supreme leader. He seems isolated from FO structure and even though he looks quite competent while commanding teams with clear goal, management of huge organisation required different traits he has yet to showcase.
And his breakdown on Crait literally cost FO their victory and saved the resistance.
Hux is really the author of FO’s achievements, with the support of its military technology. Kylo as Supreme Leader is superfluous as villain. Which on one hand shows that it’s not his role, on the other, if written badly, may give the audience the impression that he turned to light due to no other options.
And i.e. on youtube there are some comments of regular viewers that ep. 9 gives us little tension with Rey defeating Kylo for the third time.
Idk man, Rey defeating him that one time when he was physically at his weakest doesn’t mean “he doesn’t has a chance against her”. People seems forget that Rey knows what she knws from him not above him or beyond him. Even that last FB closing thingy she figured out from him(acc novels Kylo successfully closed FB first in second session). Unless the movie gives Rey, what i call “slipped on seaweed Luke ” moment with Kylo…
Comparing that with Throne Room melee where Rey managed kill lesser people than Kylo and that to when they are coming at her one at a time(i know its very plot armory but its SW)… (i would rather not comment on Poe’s piloting skills and Rey’s as well considering she is ok not good amd that fine she is a first time user)
I already spoke about Kylo and what he did on Crait being data bank stamped victory considering he eliminated most of their fighting force, killed their biggest supernatural supporter Luke Skywalker* which their previous SL wanted since forever basically made them toothless. With nothing left but a gunner and a junker in their name. Its not an out and out defeat just because your POV(Kylo) is feeling blue. One doesn’t need to actually mingle with your forces to command them. Snoke was even more isolated than Palpatine and here we go. The difference will be at least Hux like troublemaker isn’t there and Snoke hasn’t committed secret Treason (that we know of)
Honestly.. YouTube comments as sane gauge for audience perception ?? Ok.
Kylo fights 3v1 and also is shown to be able to wield both a staff and a lightsaber at the same time, but he’s only an above average fighter. He blows up Poe’s X-Wing with a shot that very few people would be able to make but it’s not a big deal. Fanon version of Kylo is horrible and needs to be completely dismissed
Yup.
Just to add on, there’s nothing in both movies that suggests that Kylo is incompetent or bad at what he does. But fans are so scared that he might not get redemption they downplay anything he does that doesn’t directly involve Rey
This. I’m not a fan of that headcanon at all. It’s way off base for someone who is the Master of the Knights of Ren, was strategic in how he decimated the Resistance fleet with his TIE Silencer, and wants reports on how to improve said Silencer.
It doesn’t add up, sis.
That’s not a sign of incompetence. People are confusing his trauma and emotions with “being an idiot and incompetent”.
