I’m so done with the “fuck the hetties” shit.
1. Being non-straight doesn’t eliminate the possibility of holding homophobic views(however, usually those people either have a severe case of internalized homophobia or they’re narcissists). Thankfully, I’m not homophobic. However, I WOULD criticize both straight and non-het people if they were doing something messed up. But I wouldn’t generalize them, bc..
2. Generalization is wrong. I’ve met cringey straight people. I’ve met cringey non-het people as well. But I’ve also met hella cool and down-to earth non-het and straight ppl. Not all het people want you dead and are dying to quote Leviticus up your ass.
3. Non-bigoted straight people are not responsible for the actions the bigoted part of their community does. There’s a huge difference between understanding that conversion therapy is wrong(and trying to make it illegal) and acting like you hold as much blame as the cunts who made it legal and/or justify it. A lot of non-het people act like every single straight person helped kill Harvey Milk or as if all straight people contributed to the murder of gay ppl in the streets during the previous century.
4. No one must be obliged to be political about this. This has nothing to do with privilege or lack thereof. Being an activist takes a lot of effort, time and shit. Not everyone has even the fucking TIME or ENERGY to do it. Also, that crap drains the fuck out of you because you are forced to deal with dumb cunts on both sides and you have to debate a lot. What one must be, though, is accepting of queer people.
5. There’s nothing wrong with criticizing non-straight people. A lot of people do cringeworthy things. And even if they belong to a minority, said people must be called out. But ONLY those who do said cringeworthy shit should be held accountable, not every single person. There’s a difference between “man shall not lie with man” and “pride parades are biphobic and hypersexualized lately”.
6. By doing all of that “all hetties are shit” crap, you’re giving homophobic people one fuck of an opportunity to shit on non-het people and possibly even do something to reverse the progress that has been made.
7. Fetishism of non-het people is lame as fuck. Oh, the good old days when non-het people were tryna show how they’re just like straight people. Too bad they’re gone, replaced by those when queer people act like being gay/bi/pan is a fucking accomplishment, like writing a book or climbing to the top of a mountain is. Sorry, but you didn’t choose to not be straight. And you being non-straight doesn’t make you special.
8. The LGBT+ community has its lame sides as well. Your idealization won’t save you from people calling out on your bullshit and showing some negative statistics about non-het relationships(that also exist in het relationships) to your dumb ass.
9. Neither non-het, nor straight people need to agree with you on everything. Deal with it.
10. The “non-het people can define what is homophobic” isn’t perfect. I could say that people shipping het couples is bigoted. Would you still believe me, even if it’s not true?
100% blame queer theory and the fact that every single proponent was shitting their pants at it becoming as obsolete as phrenology in late 2012 and early 2013.
Also straight trans people exist. Do you guys hate THEM too?
Or are you basically implying that you think trans people who are straight aren’t REALLY straight because trans people are a “different gender”?
