“this ship/work of fiction could hypothetically hurt someone” is not an argument.

We don’t prohibit alcohol just because some people can hurt themselves/other people with it. People who can drink responsibly aren’t at fault for people who can’t.

You either believe in people to be personally responsible for themselves or you believe in a dystopia where all fiction is subject to censorship due to any possible cultural impact.

“This ship/work of fiction could hypothetically save someone’s life” could also be said of any work that first line could be said about. You have no idea of the impact a work can have- or utterly fail to have- on someone who has lived a very different life from you.

You have no idea if a work you view as horrific and repugnant made someone realize they were in abusive relationship and inspired them to escape from it.

You have no idea if a story you view as fluffy and light-hearted triggered someone into a full-blown panic attack.

You have no idea.

SO STOP. FUCKING. GATEKEEPING.
