I love new designs so much

I love every single one of these girls

See, this is why I LOVE good remakes, they take old designs and DO something with it.

this ain’t it

If by “do something” you mean COMPLETELY RUIN THEM then yeah

Every single one of these is a downgrade.

I’m on mobile; someone post @plebcomics guide to making same-y tumblr characters.

Ask, and you shall receive

I don’t find these outright terrible. To me, the crime is how dull it looks? Like idk I don’t feel anything looking at any of these characters.

which characters are children, teenagers, or adults? i can’t tell. these characters all look the same.

oh, besides the fat one, i guess. why exactly is she fat? why are some of them brown?

why are the only haircuts “cliche princess” and “lesbian stereotype”?

They all look like Woke Tumblr Artist redesigns

I think Catra looks pretty cool in the Netflix one though. I don’t really mind that they’ve made different stylistic choices, idk yet if I like the choices because idk how the animation looks actually moving. They look kinda simplified and a lot younger, and some look straight up like different characters, but whatever, you’re allowed to make stylistic choices. If they’re presenting those choices as “woke” or whatever, like Tumblr redesigns do, then I’d maybe take issue with that because I don’t think that’s the best motivation for a stylistic choice and it’s patronizing, and it often comes from a place of looking down on the original as if it’s bad to have an athletic build on a warrior or something. But I’m more interested in the writing and character creation and animation and morals (because they’re intended for kids so it’s nice to have good, relatively clear but not preachy, morals) when watching a cartoon than whether they changed a character’s body type or outfit (excluding, of course, if they change it in a way that just ruins the character or something important to the original story, or they change a character so drastically and fundamentally that it’s just an insult to the original canon or displays a lack of respect for the work that they’re reimagining). I do get the point above that it’s nice when a remake does something new and interesting with the characters rather than just being like Teen Titans Go or some shit, where it’s the same overall designs but with a shitty art style and god awful writing, but the Titans live action series is a good example of “different” not meaning good, so I’m not gonna judge this just based on these pics. That said, I also fully understand when fans dislike a remake just changing the characters to visually significantly different characters for seemingly no reason, because I get liking a character and then seeing a remake and being like “That’s not her.” Both sides of this have valid feelings about it.

Based on your post I’m guessing you have not watched the show yet…. You will be very disappointed.

For everyone else:

I found out that they, apparently, they did not get the rights to Masters of The Universe and, as such, were legally barred from directly referencing the actual MoTU material. So, they can have the things that are strictly from She-ra and nothing else, which leaves them with little material to work with. So, SPOP is literally a story that has nothing substantial to do with the original She-ra other than using the characters. It is not really a reboot.

This likely works in Stevenson’s favor as she gets to promote her Tumblr lesbian fanfic and take advantage of the misguided nostalgia of people who don’t know any better. 👍

I haven’t yet watched it, because everyone has pretty much told me I’d be disappointed so I decided to re-watch Brooklyn 99 first because my friend’s been watching it and I wanted to be able to remember it clearly to talk to him about it. I think I’ll rewatch Dirk Gently too before I watch it tbh. Thanks for the explanation though, each time I hear something new it sounds more and more like they really aren’t paying tribute to a show that they actually like when making the reboot – you can usually tell when watching something whether the writers really care about the original, like Fantastic Beasts is clearly written by people who like Harry Potter.

Plus VLD antis have admitted to be working on the staff and their pairing of choice is two underage girls. Because apparently an 18 and 25 year old is pedo but adults drooling over two minor girls being in a relationship ISN’T because “women.”

I don’t even think antis have logic anymore.
