In India, it is usually customary for the future husband’s family to see the girl, usually her behavior and her cooking abilities. In this video the father of the bride wants to see if the man has the same abilities that his daughter possesses. Why should the women be expected to cook and take care of the house? He wanted his daughter to get to know the man she was going to marry. The daughter didn’t want to adhere to what was expected of her. People need to change their way of thinking, it’s not about focusing on what a girl can give to a marriage but also what a man can give, put effort in a marriage. Full video here (x)

… I mean… sure, it’s a good change… from a gender relation point of view…

But this is still an arranged marriage.

Arranged marriages aren’t bad if the kid in question consents to it. Parents have realised they can’t just force their kid to marry whoever no questions asked and get the kid’s input beforehand.

Plus what young men actually want from women and what their parents want from their daughters in law is vastly different. Most young men don’t really care if their wives are overly feminine or not, or if they can do chores or not. It’s usually his mother who makes these kinds of demands because she was raised in a different time.

I feel like this ad is kind of out of touch with the current reality. If this came out 20/30 years ago it would make sense but today young people and their parents don’t really think like this anymore.

Either it’s that or cultural differences because North India is very behind the South in terms of gender equality.
