Half of the outrage within fandoms would die down if fans stopped looking to fiction for validation. Seriously, they expect the works/characters they like to validate their views/preferences/insecurities and then get pissed when that doesn’t happen. Because how dare authors express themselves and write the story they want to tell without taking their feelings into account.
