many many many indigenous cultures have historically included more than two genders and to say that those genders do not exist is to say that those cultural traditions are invalid, and that only the imperialist gender binary is correct. which is racism.

You guys have no clue how LGBT rights are in India.

Hijra isn’t non binary. Hijra is used to describe MTF trans people, impotent men, castrated men, and men with androgen insensitivity.

Basically Hijra is a catch all term for “men without a working penis are a third gender and not REAL men, and women without a vagina aren’t REAL women.”

The government even forces them to identify as third gender instead of as men/women, transgender is treated as an abomination or freak here.

Hijras usually do sex work or begging and have no real rights, they’re persecuted by society and seen as jokes.

And NO the British didn’t cause this. The Mughals didn’t cause this. It was ALWAYS the case. Those two just made it WORSE.

Stop speaking for Indian LGBT people, foreigners. You don’t understand anything.
