do you ever get in those moods where you don’t feel like reading and you don’t feel like being on the internet and you don’t feel like watching a show and you don’t feel like sleeping and you don’t feel like existing in general
I used to get those days too often, as I’ve always suffered from anxiety. Once in awhile they can be a bummer, but the real problem starts when they occur more frequently. Anxiety and depression are like snowballs rolling downhill – you let them keep rolling, they get bigger and bigger.
Things I did to eliminate those days:
Exercise and meditation and eating healthy food are the best remedies. Build your body, make it strong. Build your mind. Make it strong.
Eat with a purpose – treat food like medicine, and don’t poison yourself by overdosing on it or eating shit.
Wake up early. Go for a run – I have grade for arthritis in my major joints, so I have to swim. Lift some weights – I do isometrics with a physical therapist to get through it with arthritis, and it HURTS, but it’s worth it.
Go to yoga.
Religious? Practice your faith, pray!
Are you an atheist? Do some guided meditation – Sam Harris has an excellent series specifically tailored to atheists.
Clean your room/house – get rid of the clutter in your life.
Avoid porn – it’s the emotional equivalent of junk food.
Don’t neglect intimacy in your life – human contact is important. Hold hands with your SO, cuddle, do stuff together. Eat together at a dinner table with no electronic media. Read a book together, and I mean read it to each other out loud – engage with your SO’s mind and soul.
Spend time with friends. Develop new friendships.
Do something for other people – charity work, anything.
Don’t constantly flood your life with politics and bad news.
Breathe
Live with purpose
Be happy
