I’ve heard rumors that you can’t make a historical movie in India, because violent Indian Muslims and Hinduists protest and clash because they feel their history is being erased, is there any truth to that?

Only half true because historical films are made all the time, and the clashes only happen in pockets of the country. And most of them are blown up by the media and would have just been resolved if people left them alone.

Clashes tend to happen more if LGBT people are portrayed positively then if historical movies are made.
