There was a court ruling in Japan where several websites had to pay an artist for reposting their artwork from Twitter w/o embedding or giving credit. Hopefully this becomes more common.

My issue with this is that such a ruling could open the door in copyright law for publishers to start sacking people for usage fees every-time they so much as post a gif from a movie without explicit sourcing.
