You know what’s more humane and less mentally traumatizing? Not dragging your kid across the border, illegally, and then complaining that you get punished for it accordingly while your child is removed from your custody because you’re a criminal.
You can’t complain about “the kids!!!!” without acknowledging why they are there in the first place, but by god do people skate right by it every time.
Sexual assault is exactly why people argued that it’s stupid to house children and adults together, coupled with the fact that a lot of these kids aren’t being brought by their parents, they’re being trafficked.
You’re not going to get me to toss my hands up and go “well gosh, let’s just not enforce the laws anymore because it’s too hard and too inconvenient”, and apparently nobody listens when I talk about how inefficient state run things tend to be. But what else would you have them do? Seriously, propose a plan that doesn’t involve just letting people in or get away with continuously trying to sneak in. Because all I ever hear with these arguments is that because the border patrol and law enforcement is overwhelmed by the number of people who keep trying to sneak in, we just shouldn’t enforce the law at all. Either that, or amnesty for every person who hops the fence which is just as stupid.
They’re children; I’m sympathetic. I’m also not going to fall for the typical strategy of using children to try to shame people into accepting an agenda.
