amphany:

An idea for a Fire Emblem game. It’s mostly set in the magical faerie world where there are mythical creatures like fairies, dragons, vampires, etc. The Princess is kidnapped/lured away into the other world by fairies. I think it would be cool to have a plot that isn’t about defeating a world-destroying demon/dragon possessing someone’s body…

Brigette and Antony are the two main characters you control from the beginning. One could be an avatar you could change the appearance of, idk.

I also have another Fire Emblem game idea set on a pirate ship. More info on point 2 here

Please feel free to ask me any questions about it!!! ❤

Some ideas –

They try to find the princess but she’s declared missing/dead and they give up their search until years later.

The avatar is a noble/politician’s kid from the “real world” and Brigette and Anthony are their retainers. In the beginning there are mysterious happenings in the “real world” such as reports of strange beings attacking people, artefacts being stolen, etc. The avatar and their retainers investigate and on the way get more people into their army.

It turns out those strange happenings are a result of the gate between the fairy world and the real world being broken, and the gate breaks for one year every 15 years. The avatar’s army steps into the fairy world and that’s where the mid-game onwards plot is.

To distinguish the “real world” from the fantasy one the “real world” is based on the Victorian era/Industrial age instead of medieval times like the usual FE games. This would also allow the use of new weapons like guns/muskets and new warfare strategies.

Speaking of guns the “iron burns fairies” trope will be there, but exploited and played with, like some enemies will have a gimmick that makes them immune to iron based weapons for a few turns. Or have coverage moves/weapons to deal with iron.

Instead of stereotypical “magic” (because it’s the Victorian era) there will be a new weapon called “science” which functions the same way. Acid deals fire damage, poison gas will deal wind damage, and alkali will deal electrical damage. So the classes cleric, sage, and valkyrie/strategist are now scribe, medic, and scholar/scientist instead.

Traditional magic and tomes will exist in the “fairy world” though and your party will be a mix of human and fairy characters. Each will have its own gimmick and skillset and stats.

The fairy land is a story that’s told in the “real world”, in the sense like how we see the “medieval fantasy” genre. Books and plays are written taking place in that world, it has its own set of tropes, lore, world building, etc. So expect a few lines about “OMG it’s just like how I read in (book/play)” or “X only exists in fairy stories *x is behind them*”

Plot Twist: The princess is the villain, and the villain from the get-go. She was a royal brat who was obsessed with fairy stories and fantasy to the point of neglecting her lessons and duties.

She was abusive to everyone, her parents, retainers, other kids her age even though they were kind to her because they wanted her to come to reality and could “never understand her like her books could.” Basically she showed empathy to fiction but not to actual people.

She would keep having outbursts and running away from the castle, and then it was the year where the gate broke, so she found the fairy world was real. She made a plan to escape there. She drugged her nanny and bodyguards with sleeping draught and escaped the castle.

When she got to fairy world, she thought she was like the characters from her stories. She thought she was the “chosen heroine” who was to go on a quest and save the land from its problems. She ended up becoming its conqueror and the people played along with her delusions out of fear.

(Basically the princess is a deconstruction of an Isekai/light novel protagonist and of the “kids wanting to escape to a fantasy world” trope)

Initially the heroes think fairy world is a mostly happy place being beset upon by an evil dragon (like conventional FE games) and that the princess is the benevolent and loved queen (in fact she PRETENDS to be an Emmeryn/Mikoto archetype in front of others).

…in actuality the dragons and demons are an endangered species in that world and are being persecuted by the princess. You can recruit the dragons and demons in the late game.

The princess had a younger sister who she also used to bully and abuse (but the younger sister was a baby/toddler so she only remembers fragments). The younger sister was the ignored “unfavourite” child but she was loving and kind to everybody. Basically a “good counterpart” to her elder sister.

After what happened to her older sister, her parents got convinced that fairy stories are evil and made their first daughter like that (they didn’t, she was a bad seed anyway). So even though the younger sister also loved fantasy, they would abuse her every time she showed interest in it and banned those books from their home, and do the stereotypical “anime parent logic” of never telling the child WHY they did what they did.
