If I were you, OP, I wouldn’t use the word “queer” to refer to LGBT people. Most of them consider it to be a slur, and for good reason.

Not from what I’ve heard, as they’ve “reclaimed” the word.

In most parts of the world it’s either

1. A slur

2. A word associated with very radical, politicized, extremist LGBT groups. 

In my country it’s the latter which is why I don’t like it being used so freely. I’m bi, not kweer, despite what social justice circles think.
