What people mean when they say that “they don’t want politics in video games / comics, books, shows / etc.” isn’t “I don’t any any type of political or social commentary or relevance in any show that I watch ever.”

It’s “Please don’t badly write politics in video games, comic books, shows, etc. and force them in to use the medium as your political soapbox.” 

If you want to write a video game, comic book or TV or what you that has political and social issues involved in it, by all means. However, shoving in current politics about how Trump is an idiot and current events means that your show, book, etc. will not age well. If you want to write political issues and topics, making them ageless and general is the way to go because you can still get the point across without the use of current politics that will not age well and often times, comes off more as a lecture to the audience and the author using the medium to just tell the audience what their political views are. 

If you really want to write about current events, go write a history or political book instead of a fictional story.
