pemdas counts multiplication and division the same, as well as addition and subtraction, it would be left to right if it came down to those but i think multiplication as a result of parenthesis is different

Here we learned it as bodmas but yeah, in bodmas multiplication and division is done in order from left to right, but bracket has higher priority than those two. So you would do 2(2+1) first.
