Everyone needs to see this. We can’t just let them discriminate against us, we have rights and we should fight for them. Our government is actively trying to push down minorities and no one is talking about it. This affects me and many of my friends. This could affect you or a friend you have. Even if this doesnt affect you, SPREAD THIS INFORMATION AND BE AN ALLY. We’re not gonna live in a broken country where freedom and equality is preached but only certain groups have those rights to equality and liberty. We shouldn’t have to live in fear of what human right our government is gonna strip away from us next. Please spread this.
I tend to be very skeptical of such inflammatory headlines since it tends to blow things out of proportion, so I did a bit of digging and… yikes. It’s only a draft right now, however, so maybe nothing will happen?
If I’m understanding this correctly, this is a) really messed up from a human rights standpoint and b) has the potential to cause soooooo many problems from an administrative standpoint. So many trans people (approx. 1.4 million, according to the article) have made social and legal transition already, would this lead to revising all their birth certificates, passports, driver’s licenses, and other legal documents? What will this mean when talking about insurance companies covering things like HRT? This is still so muddy and I’m not sure what the consequences might be. It’s already been made quite clear by various health organizations that gender dysphoria is a medical condition, and that gender isn’t as simple as what’s in your pants–it’s about how your brain is wired (trans being a mismatch between brain mapping and physical sex). So basically, is this potential re-defining of gender going directly against science?
I was also skeptical seeing the above image at first, until I checked my regular (Dutch) news site report it as well. That generally tells me it’s not just something blown out of proportion.
They’re trying to legalize discrimination against transgender people. Plain and simple. Not to mention how this will affect intersex people as well.

I don’t know about the American government well enough but I’d like to believe such drafts will never make it through. Think about the many Trumpcare drafts that were turned down and the way the travel bans were reversed on grounds of them being discriminatory. But with Trump appointing all these extremely right-wing people I’m not yet reassured either, and either way, you still have a president trying to take away transgender rights.
On top of everything @ruimtetijd has already pointed out, this obviously can’t work – for cisgender people either. I’m sure people haven’t forgotten all the bathroom trouble. Photos of bearded, muscled transgender men in women’s bathrooms and feminine transgender women in the men’s – now with this ruling, regardless even of what’s actually between their legs. It’s just plain ridiculous to determine the sex of these people’s bodies purely by how they were born. Nobody is going to look at them that way. It will at best lead to constant confusion and at worst lead to horrible discrimination. This won’t help anyone.
Okay, you know me, I’m actually right-wing, but this sounds incredibly fucked-up.
This is Pence, not Trump. Trump doesn’t actually care. Pence is the one pushing legislation like this, put the blame where it’s due.
