They need to rename Quora Shitty Parents Anonymous because theres new questions like this every week.

Oh hey look my parents are writing to an advice column

This is why when I was a teenager, my mother offered to “help” me buy my computer. Convinced me to size-up on the budget. It was my birthday, so I thought the offer was genuine.

During the ride back home she lets slip that because she put it on her credit card, was going to pay for part of it, that she now owned enough of it to make it a “family” computer. So she reserved the right as the family dictator to determine who could be on the computer, or not. Nothing was going to change at home, I didn’t own it, I had no veto or control over what I paid for.

Effectively I was tricked into investing 2 summers worth of income towards something that was communally owned. And being the psychotic bitch she is, she still liked teling me to get off the computer for no reason but because it was a command.

And this, children, is why you never accept help that comes with even the shadow or ghost of strings attached. Trust bags of money, not promises, smiles or credit.

That’s when I would’ve been like.

“Turn this car around, return that sumbitch and give me my half back. Buy your own family computer”
