I hadn’t, so I just googled it. These were the headlines that came up from the mainstream media. I screenshotted them to identify just who’s making these claims:
So then I clicked on the actual video, and watched the whole thing:
It’s a 35 minute speech, and there is laughter in the video precisely once, in his introductory remarks 1 minute in: It appears to be just one person said something or made a sound in response to Trump’s slightly puffed-up opening statements, and so Trump makes a quip about not expecting that reaction and the room laughs. They’re laughing along with Trump.
It’s a perfectly respectable and well-delivered speech that follows, clearly laying out his positions on current world politics, and during itthere’snolaughter whatsoever, no matter how hard the cameramen try to pick out a bored or disgruntled face. And at the end the whole (packed) room applauds.
That’s it. End of story.
But would you know that from the headlines? What do those headlines say? What picture makes the thumbnail for the video?
I’m disgusted and bewildered at just how shamelessly the media have twisted and turned upside down the story of a fairly well-received speech into some kind of humiliating car crash/final ruin for Trump. The reports simply do not match what anyone can see with their own eyes when they look, and yet they print it anyway. Why? Do they think no-one will take the time to actually watch the speech? Is that what they’re counting on? Are they really that desparate?
So what happens when their readers do? How do those people tally such disparate messages?
I honestly don’t understand how anyone can trust any of these newspapers anymore. How much would someone have to lie to themselves to keep on reading them?
