If you gave those guys what they want and only hired the best, you’d have an all female staff.

The comment like the above is why people are angry.

Person a: people are turned down for stating race and gender on applications and that’s wrong!!!

Person b: okay, we should have applications without gender or race to even the field and just look at credentials.

Person a: nooooo! Then companies might not be as diverse! People should look for the RIGHT gender and race, even if the rest of the credentials are the same! Minorities need help to succeed!

Also keep in mind that the guy up there tries to make a case that they didn’t discriminate and only picked based on skill, but never actually confirms it.

In fact, he specifically says that the company DID discriminate, actively recruiting ONLY from colleges that produced more female candidates than male, intentionally skewing their candidate pool in favour of women in order to try and reach 50:50.

The best person for the right job, regardless of caste or creed is true equality. I would be very insulted if I found out I only got the job I got because of some diversity quota. All this is so patronizing and reeks of “women can’t get jobs in STEM unless we give them handouts!!”

My aunts got jobs in STEM before diversity quotas were even implemented, they were hired because they were GOOD, not because they were “oppressed.”
