TIL: Having a child can have a pretty strong negative impact on a person’s happiness. On average, the effect of a new baby on a person’s life in the first year is worse than divorce, worse than unemployment and worse even than the death of a partner.

To be fair, I think it’s only worse because of tpday’s current climate and the added stresses to an already unnecessarily stressful life. It’s not really just the baby that is so terrible for parents’ happiness. It’s the lifestyle that society forces onto us that makes having a child hard. Namely, work above everything else. A lot of pekple lose their jobs after getting pregnant, even though they’re not supposed to. And a lot of people have to lose hours of work to take care of their child and now they’re making less money.

Tl;dr It’s not the baby that makes people unhappy. It’s capitalism that makes people unhappy, forcing them in a situation where having a baby is more of a burden than it should be.

That and the fact that a lot of people have children just to cave into societal or parental pressure, because they feel like they “should” or they’re “selfish” for not having them.
