I feel like ReySkys think that Luke and his spouse are just gonna pop up on Rey next movie and have a cheesy (poorly written) ‘Erin finding her parents at the end The Office moment’ *sigh* this is SW people!

Well tbh ‘hamfisting family members in at the last minute’ did happen in SW before, in ROTJ with Leia re: the Skywalkers, but people forget that the context of the whole ‘I am your father’ and ‘It’s you, Leia’ twists were that George Lucas sort of inserted these things on the fly. Anakin wasn’t originally intended to be Vader and Leia wasn’t originally intended to be Luke’s sister, and these things were added for time purposes really. It’s nonsensical to compare this to the ST, whose broad strokes were planned in its entirety from the beginning. What’s annoying is when people act like ‘surprise relatives’ is some sort of actual, integral part of SW lore instead of accidental and incidental.

Also lmfao do reysk/ys still exist?

Actually, in hindsight, this works on a profound deep level (not just giving Leia a mythic Mother Goddess place in the story) – Yoda and Ben were discussing how this new Skywalker ‘went wrong’ because he probably won’t kill his dad as intended. But there is this spare one. And in a way, Leia did upend Anakin’s redemptive legacy, she is still waging war against her father’s shadow. And it’s NOT A GOOD THING. So, kinda, gives you an idea about the merit of the ‘spare gooder Skywalkers’ sentimemt.

“And in a way, Leia did upend Anakin’s redemptive legacy, she is still waging war against her father’s shadow. And it’s NOT A GOOD THING.” So much this @toawaterfowl !
My guess is that it was supposed to be her arc since the novels. I mean, she could never forgive Vader, never could she reconcile the Anakin and the Vader person either. Ben had to be her son for that reason: So she could understand Padmé and Luke when they claimed and insisted that “no one’s ever really gone”.

This is truly the kind of thing people aren’t seeing or thinking about when they claim the ST makes no sense or is degrading/diminishing the previous trilogies, especially the OT and the OT trio. It actually fits perfectly and flows directly out of everything that came before, from Episode I on down.
