Count me in as another Reylo shipper who wants Kylo to defeat Rey in a duel, or at least express some competence separate from Rey. I know many Reylo shippers expect Kylo to be softly sad or a complete mess groveling on his knees in IX, but I had enough of that in TFA/TLJ. I feel like it’s a super unpopular opinion to want Kylo to be something other than a sad puppydog in Rey’s presence. Rey’s not a delicate flower, she can handle herself. I’d like them to fight one last time before reconciling.

You sent this so long ago (ages ago) that I’m sure you don’t remember sending it at all and also the conversation that inspired it is long since dead and buried so maybe it’s stupid to answer this but!!!!!

you’re right!

I think it’s that the rules of love stories don’t change just because he’s the villain. He still needs to be his own person and they need to be equals. He can’t always be collapsing at her feet. This was the thesis of my slightly convoluted essay on why Ben Solo was like Gabriel Oak as opposed to Boldwood (or Troy.) He’s reaching out to her and it’s beseeching and desperate but also he’s trying to stand and offer her something. It’s wrong and twisted and still destructive but it’s important that his instinct is not to surrender or command- it’s to build something with her. That’s a beautiful thing.

(also yeah I would love to see him defeat her in a fight because that hasn’t happened and COME ON. @lucasfilm let your heroine fail (1) time. do it. DO IT.)

GAWWWD. Thank you!! I hear the song of my people. If they’re equals then there needs to be no more shimmering puppy dog eyes and begging. They need to come together as mature, equal adults.

And Kylo defeating Rey in a duel but backing down from further harming would be huge for him!

Kylo defeating Rey in a duel (whether Rey is then rescued by her friends or simply flees) and then wondering why he doesn’t feel triumphant? Masterful.

Well, count me right in. Not only would Kylo defeating Rey actually be suprising given LF/Disney track record but it would make narative sense. He´s more bitter about Rey rejecting him than he´s about Leia by now, it´s afresh wound. By sparing her life and letting her go, he would supress his ego (and Dark side is all about ego) in a major way and Rey would know that. We´ve seen enough Rey being badass, it would not make her look weak. Kylo, on the other hand, never defeated another force user – he was able to kill Snoke only because  Snoke was a smug snake. Like I know he´s supposed to be ineffective as long as he´s a villain and I know why he´s this way but come on, Disney. For all the talk about equality, we haven´t seen much of it. As much as I adore Adam´s puppy eyes, we already know Kylo has a softer side. He needs to be stronger inside and start to believe he´s  finally f…g good enough for someone and Rey deserves better. She deserves a man by her side, not an insecure teenager.

Can’t agree more.

And as I
said before, that is why I backed off a little bit from shipping. Sorry if this opinion is shit and bothers someone, but I just don’t
like the dynamic (equality my ass), where one character is an ever glorious
perfect godlike creature, that beats the second character’s ass

all the damn time, throws them
out at inconvenience and/or displeasure whilst that second character weeps, kneels
and begs to be considered.

I approve this message.
